Acquired by the 2nd Lord Faringdon at Christies,
29 October 1954 (Lot 28).
Background
Thomas de Keyser was the most important portrait
painter in Amsterdam before Rembrandt, and his work in that city was contemporary
with that of Frans Hals in Haarlem. Paintings by him hang in museums throughout
Europe.
