Background
This full-length portrait of the 2nd Lord Faringdon dates from the late
part of Sickerts career a period of renewed innovation. It
is typical of this period in being a large coarsely textured canvas worked
from photographs. Sickert painted the debonair young aristocrat breezing
down the steps of his country house, Buscot Park, with a sharp suit and
